
Social Impact
The primary purpose of the OCGA Social Impact committee is committed to helping members of the Carey community start or grow initiatives that have the potential to significantly impact the community and which would otherwise struggle to secure funding.
Current OCGA Social Impact committee members are, Katie Hooper (1987) and Jared Buratto (2017).

Making a Difference
The OCGA Social Impact committee aims to support members of the Carey community in launching or expanding projects that can create a significant positive impact on the community, especially those that struggle to secure funding.
The average grant issued is $3,000 however grants of up to $10,000 can be applied for.
We are excited to take on more grant applications for Round 3 2024. Applications open 1 August and close 30 September 2024.
Criteria
The following criteria will be used to assess applications. Not all criteria are mandatory and applications will be assessed on the basis of how closely they meet each criteria.

a) A charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC); or
b) eligible for registration with the ACNC; or
c) is financially viable.
2. The initiative has a strong and ongoing connection to a current or former Carey student.
3. The initiative has been operating for fewer than 3 years.
4. The initiative has a charitable purpose that is aligned with the values of Carey and the OCGA.
5. The initiative offers the chance for Carey students and/or OCGA members to participate in a volunteering opportunity The initiative is unable to easily source funding elsewhere.

Process
STEP 1
Share your passion and charity idea by completing an application form.
STEP 2
The Social Impact Committee will assign a member to serve as your point of contact and champion to facilitate communication and to clarify any questions.
STEP 3
The Social Impact Committee will review the application against an assessment matrix and submit their recommendation to the OCGA Council.
STEP 4
The OCGA Council will review the Social Impact Committee's recommendation and communicate their decision through your designated champion.
STEP 5
The OCGA Council will distribute the grant to successful applicants and obtain twice yearly reports on the progress and outcomes of any achievements.

Case study 1: The Resilience Project
The OCGA gave establishment funds to assist in the start up of The Resilience Project. In the years since, The Resilience Project, have gone on to impact countless lives and raise incredible awareness on the importance of mental health.

Case study 2: JMB Foundation
Over a number of years the OCGA have supported the JMB Foundation who provide funding and support for young people living with acquired brain injury. JMB Foundation not only provides funds to assist young peoples care and rehabilitation, but also gives a public voice to those young people – who all too often literally cannot speak for themselves – and to their families and carers. The support has primarily been in the funding of the volunteer t-shirts for fundraising events.

Case study 3: Ambers White Light
Amber's White Light (AWL) supports research and implementation of research into complex mental illness and suicide prevention, for teenagers and young adults, especially young women. AWL aims to achieve best practice in support and treatment for young people and their families. The OCGA assisted with financial support to purchase the first branded shoe laces that allowed the foundation to raise funds.
