Read the latest edition online and discover community news from throughout 2023.

Carey’s netball program has had an impressive year, with our Senior Girls going undefeated throughout their APS season and securing their third premiership in a row, followed by a spectacular win in the Victorian Schools Netball Championships, securing them the name of best school netball team in the state. And more, our Junior Girls also secured the 2023 Victorian Championship in their league. Staff Member in Charge of Netball, Sally Nelson, talks about what it takes to produce a sporting program of such a high calibre. Story on page 6.

Adding to our special centenary edition of Torch earlier this year, the Summer 2023 edition covers more of our special centenary events and includes a wrap up of the celebrations by Director of Community Engagement, Julianne Brandon, on page 14.

Carey alumni make a big feature in this edition, with a fascinating interview on page 4 with Professor Silvana Marasco (1986), Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Alfred Hospital. We celebrate the success of the inaugural Towards Leadership seminar series for Year 11 students, where six Carey alumni came back to school to share their knowledge – read about it on page 10. This edition also recognises four more Carey Luminaries: Ron Castan AM QC (1956), Tiffany Cherry (1989), Dr Nicole Bieske (1991) and Dr Maithri Goonetilleke (1997). Learn more about these inspiring alumni on page 40.

Finally, there’s a little treat for the animal lovers among us on page 20, where you can read about Barkley and Archie, the therapy dogs at Carey.

There’s so much more to discover in this edition of Torch. Read it online now!
