The OCGA Young Alumni Night!

The dance floor of the Swan Hotel in Richmond was packed with Old Carey Grammarians into the early hours of the morning, enjoying a splendidly good time! Many guests remarked that there was something really special about dancing and socialising with people who were not necessarily close friends, but those who they knew from the years above and below during their time at school. There was something equalising and powerful about connecting in a joyous setting with those who attendees had previously felt associated with in a supportive and engaged school community.  It was wonderful to see families of siblings enjoying fun moments together with their siblings and their siblings' friends. OCGA “Young Alumni” functions were first introduced under the leadership of past OCGA President Michael Cooke (1971) and the last function was held in 2008 under the leadership of then OCGA Vice President Jane Favaloro (1994). 15 years later it was fantastic to reintroduce Young Alumni events to the OCGA Calendar, with such success.  It was lovely to see a huge number of graduates from the classes of 2020 and 2021. Their final years of schooling were impacted by COVID-19 and it was wonderful to see them come together with their cohort and the cohorts above and below for a fun evening. The question we kept getting asked by guests most was, “When’s the next event?!"  We sincerely congratulate and thank Jazz Millar (2020) and her Young Alumni team (Clare Stambe (2018), Sasha Edney(2020) and Harrison Carr (2020) who worked tirelessly to bring this outstanding event to fruition.  We also extend a huge thank you to Jack Jones and his team at Outlook Communications who provided and installed lights which created such a wonderful vibe for the event. Following the success of this event, our Young Alumni team are hard at work planning for our next event in February 2024. Based on the energy and enthusiasm of the attendees, we’re confident that our next Young Alumni event will be an even bigger success!
