Message from the Council (September)
Wednesday, 6 September 2023
The last few months have been a very productive and exciting time for the Old Carey Grammarians Association.

Recently, we held the inaugural OCGA Collective, which brought together:
  • The OCGA Council
  • Our Finance, Social Impact, Centenary Planning and Careers and Networking  Committees
  • Representatives from the School including Principal Jonathan Walter, Director of Community Engagement Julianne Brandon and Head of Senior School Kellie Lyneham
  • Presidents and Secretaries of the Old Carey Football, Cricket, Hockey, Cross Country and Performing Arts Clubs
It was a wonderful night where over 50 members of our community came together to chart the future direction of the OCGA. We were also extremely fortunate to listen to an inspiring address from Carey Medalist Bruce Murray (1961) on the purpose and history of the OCGA and an exciting briefing from Jonathan Walter on Carey's future Strategic Direction.

On this night we also welcomed a diverse and dynamic group of new Council Members aboard the OCGA Council. We are so fortunate to have such an experienced, passionate and talented team leading our Association. Click here to learn more about our new Council Members.

We have also recently witnessed the tremendous success of our Old Carey Women's Football team. The team faced a challenging start to season, but displayed immense courage, resilience, belief and teamwork which led to them making the Victorian Amateur Football Association's Grand Final.

Whilst the Grand Final result was a narrow loss, the team is comprised of many 2022 graduates and even a few current Carey students, so the future for Old Carey Women's Football is very bright. Congratulations to all involved.

Throughout this year, many of you will have interacted with our outstanding new Alumni and Community Manager Kaushini Fernando.
Kaushini joined Carey in January right as everything was ramping up for the School's Centenary. She was thrown right in the deep end and has played a vital role in the all the fantastic Centenary celebrations the Carey community has enjoyed this year.

Despite having to deal with the busyness of the Carey Centenary and only having been in her role for just over eight months, Kaushini has achieved an extraordinary amount in her short tenure.
She has:
  • Completely overhauled our OCGA Website and revitalized it with an engaging, user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing interface. We had envisaged that this project would take several months and would require a professional web designer, but despite having no formal web-design experience, Kaushini stepped up to the plate and has done an outstanding job.
  • Relaunched the OCGA Instagram account and ensures that engaging information is communicated to our community through this important platform.
  • Oversaw the execution and launch of the outstanding Carey Lumniaries display which profiles several of our most inspirational OCGA Members.
  • Launched Carey's innovative Towards Leadership program which sees OCGA Members presenting to prospective Year 11 leaders on a series of important topics related to leadership.
The OCGA Council greatly admire and appreciate Kaushini's professionalism, diligence, passion, proactiveness and positivity and thoroughly enjoy working with her. We are delighted to wish her and her husband, Sudaesh, all the very best as they soon welcome the arrival their first child and enter an exciting new chapter of their lives.

Kaushini will be on parental leave until the commencement of Term 2 next year. Whilst she is on leave, her role will be capably covered by Natalie Jose.

Animo et Fide,

The OCGA Council
