Message from the OCGA Council - 26 May
Thursday, 25 May 2023

As we approach the middle of the year, it is wonderful to see that our association is in such a strong position. Recent months have seen a plethora of activities and events engaging alumni of all ages. The governance of our council and subcommittees is stronger than ever and we have many exciting opportunities approaching on the horizon!

Old Carey Cricket retains the Dunstan Shield!
Congratulations to the Old Carey Cricket Club, who for the first time in over 40 years, have successfully won the Dunstan Shield two years in a row. This is an extraordinary achievement that follows a tremendously successful year in 2022, with the Club winning the Men's 1sts, Men's 2nds and Women's Premierships!

Return of Old Carey Grammarians Women's Football
It has been wonderful to see the return of the Old Carey Grammarians Women's Football team in 2023! Congratulations to the team on the several wins they have enjoyed thus far this season. We look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength!

Musicals Through the Years
The Musicals Through the Years production was held at the Forum Theatre on the 18th and 19th of May. This spectacular production epitomised everything that the OCGA aspires to achieve: alumni of all ages reliving their magical memories from School, reconnecting with former schoolmates, forging new connections, engaging with current students and feeling a deep sense of belonging to a vibrant and dynamic community.

Congratulations to all the alumni, students and Carey staff involved in planning and delivering such an incredible event. It was a momentous moment in Carey's history that will be spoken about fondly for many years to come!

The OCGA were proud to sponsor the post-show celebration on Friday night for all alumni and staff involved with the production. It was wonderful to see alumni ranging in age from 18 to 55 celebrating, reminiscing and connecting well past 3am!

Amber's White Light
It was wonderful to see so many OCGA Members participating in the recent Run the Tan event, running in supporting Amber's White Light, a charity that was established to honour the memory of Amber Wraith (2020) who tragically passed away last year. It was a fantastic event which we look forward to becoming an annual inclusion in the OCGA calendar.

AWL recently ran an exciting fundraiser, with AFL jerseys signed by acclaimed AFL footballers, and Carey Alumni Nic Daicos (2020), Noah Anderson (2019) and Matt Rowell (2019) being auctioned off. Click here to see how the auction went!

OCGA Centenary Planning Committee
The OCGA was founded on the 10th of July 1925, following an informal meeting of twelve members of the Carey community at the home of Mr. Stuart Hickman. As such, the OCGA will celebrate its centenary in 2025. Our Centenary Planning Committee, comprised of former OCGA presidents, former school board members, current Carey staff and other OCGA Members, is well underway planning for this momentous occasion. If you have any suggestions on how you would like the OCGA to celebrate our centenary in two years time, please email ocga@carey.com.au with your ideas!

Midsumma Pride March
We were delighted to see a number of OCGA Members marching alongside Carey students, staff and parents at the Midsumma Pride March earlier this year. Midsumma Pride Festival is a vibrant and inclusive celebration of diversity, love, and acceptance that takes place annually in St Kilda. As one of Australia's largest and most anticipated Pride events, Midsumma attracts a diverse range of participants and visitors from all walks of life.

International Women's Day Breakfast
The OCGA was proud to sponsor Carey’s annual International Women’s Day event on 10 March. This event celebrates and recognises the outstanding female students, staff and alumni who comprise the Carey community and urges us to strive towards gender equality.

The guest speaker was Professor Silvana Marasco (1986), who is the Director of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Alfred Hospital. At the conclusion of Silvana’s informative, entertaining and inspiring presentation, OCGA Council Member Jasmine Millar (2020) presented her with a thank-you gift on behalf of our community.

It has been a wonderful few months for the OCGA and we are excited for many events on the horizon. We sincerely thank all our hard-working volunteers engaged with our subcommittees and affiliated groups and our the incredible Carey Alumni team of Kaushini and Izzie for all their hard work and support.

Animo et Fide,
The OCGA Council
