Seussical the Musical

The Old Carey Performing Arts Club (OCPAC), known for its acclaimed productions, is staging Seussical the Musical for 2024, featuring Carey alumni in key roles such as Joey Phyland as director, Olivia Jackson as Co-Musical Director and William Maloney as Horton.

In recent years the Old Carey Performing Arts Club (OCPAC) has built a strong reputation for staging productions that have received rave reviews and prestigious awards such as the Musical Theatre Guild of Victoria Award for Production of the Year.

For the past five weeks, rehearsals have been underway for the 2024 OCPAC production of Seussical the Musical. The production marks the directorial debut of 2018 Carey graduate Joey Phyland. This production marks a full circle moment for Joey, who in Year 5 starred as Jojo in the 2011 Carey Junior School Kew production of Seussical, which ignited a love of theatre that he pursued whilst at Carey before going on to study Musical Theatre at the Victorian College of the Arts.

The 18-piece orchestra will be conducted by 2016 Carey graduate Olivia Jackson who is serving as Co-Musical Director of this production and is doing an outstanding job crafting all the excellent songs performed by our cast and orchestra.

2023 Carey Performing Arts Captain Josh Drake has joined the team as Assistant Director and is masterfully assisting Joey in bringing the bold, innovative vision for this show to life.

Green Room award winning Costume Designer Kim Bishop, who has designed costumes for professional productions starring Todd McKenney, Anthony Warlow and many other stars of the Australian stage is venturing into the world of amateur theatre, supporting our alumni, who, in the past, starred in Carey's Senior School Musicals.

William Maloney (2016), who studied Musical Theatre at Federation University after leaving Carey, stars in the lead role of Horton the Elephant. Many other incredibly talented Carey alumni will be returning to the stage including Quinn Cameron (2020), Shan D'Cruz (2020), Amy Thyer (2013), Finn Mezzetti (2020) and Josie Harris-Wetherbee (2011).

The team are working to boldly bring these Seussian stories into the 21st century, by reinterpreting these classic tales. We encourage you to support our talented Carey alumni by bringing your friends and family along to see this fantastic show!
