In 2004, former AFL legend Michael Long decided that something needed to be done about the plight of the Indigenous community, so he walked from his home in Melbourne all the way to Parliament House in Canberra. The Long Walk was born, with money raised to support Indigenous education programs across the country. Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of his walk, Michael Long and the Long Walk- Naarm 2024 return to Melbourne with live music performed by some of Australia’s leading Indigenous artists, free sport and art activations, and food trucks to keep us all going. We will meet at Alexandra Gardens at 5.00pm and walk as a group at 5.30pm to the MCG. We want to proudly walk as a symbol of the Old Carey Grammarians Association's solidarity in Reconciliation. We walk together alongside others to show how we too, as Carey alumni , know our role in becoming allies to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to help reconcile. A symbol of intergenerational solidarity grounded in Carey values of care, respect and growth. REGISTER HERE |
