This year, Carey shares its centenary with some other great organisations and products – Disney, Vegemite and the annual 24 Hours of Le Mans motor sports race, for example – but also a very special person from our community. Sam Teed, who graduated from Carey in 1939, also celebrates his 100th birthday in 2023. Sam has nurtured a strong connection with Carey since he was a student. Getting involved in community projects and making friendships everywhere he goes has been a defining aspect of Sam’s life, and has carried him through active service in WWII, a career that took him across many parts of Southeast Asia, and now in his retirement as a regular gardener at Rippon Lea Estate. To celebrate Sam's 100th birthday coinciding with Carey's, Sam came to the School to have a chat with his good friend Bailey Wraith (2018) about Sam's life and what Carey means to him. You can read more about Sam, Bailey and their friendship in the upcoming centenary edition of Torch. Keep an eye on your mailboxes and inboxes in the coming weeks. |
