We hope that you and your families are all enjoying winding down after a busy year. It goes without saying that 2020 and 2021 were difficult years for the OCGA. The pandemic and the consequential lockdowns and restrictions, seriously impeded our ability to run reunions, events, initiatives and wiped out entire performances and seasons for our sporting and performing arts clubs. However, we are delighted to report that 2022 has been a wonderful year for the OCGA community. The OCGA and our Associated Clubs have emerged stronger than ever out of COVID and 2022 has been a truly stellar year. The Old Carey Cricket Club had a highly successful season, with Premierships for both the Men’s First XI and Second XI. Excitingly, the Women’s Cricket Program relaunched to great success, with our Women’s First XI winning a Premiership also! The future is looking bright for the Old Carey Football Club. We fielded three strong football teams this year, which provided a chance to get senior games into many young players ahead of a reset in 2023. In positive news, a coach has been appointed to restart the Women’s Football program for next season, which will be a key priority for the club in 2023. 2022 was a great year for the Old Carey Soccer Club. We had four strong teams who had a fantastic season. The Men’s Seniors and Reserves sides finished runners up in the State League and have therefore been promoted to the National Premier League structure, whilst the Women’s Senior side was runner up in the Victorian Premier League. Old Carey Hockey continues to go from strength to strength. This year we had three winter teams and one summer team. We had a competitive winter season with the First Men’s side just missing out on finals, whilst the summer competition side is currently in the top half of the ladder. 2022 has been an incredible year for the Old Carey performing arts! After an extremely challenging period with COVID-19 forcing the cancellation of their 2021 performances, it was brilliant for OCPAC to be able to hold a week-long run of In the Heights in September in the MGH. This was an incredible show which celebrated diversity, whilst showcasing some incredible performances from our extremely talented OCPAC members. The show was a huge success and was nominated for 16 awards at the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria 2022 awards and won three: Best Male Performance in a Leading Role, Best Musical Direction and the prestigious award for Production of the Year! This has also been a ground-breaking year for the OCGA Council, with a lot of positive work being completed to reform the OCGA and ensure that our association and its activities proudly reflect the modern, progressive values of the Carey community. In 2023, we are excited to be launching some new sub-committees. If you are interested in joining any of these sub-committees, please email Sam.
The future of the OCGA is incredibly bright and we hope that you will be a part of it. On behalf of the OCGA Council, we wish you all a very merry Christmas and a 2023 that is filled with peace, hope and joy. We look forward to celebrating Carey’s centenary with you in the new year.
